New Year - Same you?

I never make New Years resolutions. They're silly - and no one ever sticks to them. Complete waste of time. Every year though, I promise to be better - to myself, if I feel I have shorted myself, and to others.

I am not selfish, where I put myself before others wholly for the gain of myself. But, I have been thinking lately that maybe that this isn't such a bad thing. Maybe selfish people are happier people - because they don't base their happiness off the happiness of others but because they base their happiness on what makes them happy - and when you stop to think about that - what's so wrong with it after all.
Because I do what I want!

What's so wrong with putting yourself first, and the needs and wants of yourself above the needs and wants of others? Isn't that what self preservation is all about anyway? Could we as a species have survived if not for a few of us being a little selfish.

This year - I do plan on be better. I definitely plan on being more selfish. I plan on saying more "no's" when the situation doesn't suite me - and more " yes's" if and when it does. I plan on continuing my dream of being a writer in Paris - and never looking back to what made me unhappy. If I happen to lose some people or "friends" along the way - then so be it. Maybe that's better for the wear after all.

I am not saying that "greed is good" no, I won't be toppling over everyone else and getting all Gordon Gekko  on my fellow man - but I will be examining events more carefully, and if it doesn't make me happy doesn't then its out! No is in people 2013 is my year - I'll exceed in 2013 - and all other cliche's there are...

Do you have any plans for the New Year that will make you happier? Are you going to be more selfish? Or are you going to be the same old you as last year?
